From the soil to the Earth

Rizoma is a regenerative agriculture production company. We were born to regenerate the health of the planet through the production of food.

There is a way to make agriculture that is profitable, productive and beneficial to the planet. It promotes the regeneration not only of crops, but of the entire food production system (including rural communities and consumers), taking into account environmental, economic, social and ethical values. We, from Rizoma, are scaling up this model of agriculture in Brazil, one of the world´s largest b rea d b a s ket. Driven by the urgency of environmental issues and a disruptive business opportunity, our mission is, by 2030, regenerate 1 million hectares of land in the country.

We recognize the soil as our main asset and we find in the health of the land our foundation to produce whole and diverse foods.

We develop integrated farming systems that recover degraded lands, sequester carbon from the atmosphere, optimize the water cycle and restore soil biodiversity, allowing nature to regenerate in the midst of farming practices.

Regenerative Agriculture

Soil

Soil is the basis of nature's functioning. Regenerative agriculture has soil regeneration as a priority: by building organic matter, restoring biodiversity and using green manuring and cover crops to improve soil health and fertility.

Carbon

No other mechanism is as effective in combating global warming as the sequestration of CO2 from the atmosphere through photosynthesis. Regenerative agriculture is a true carbon sink: efficient in capturing and storing carbon in the soil, thus contributing to slowing down global warming.

Water

Well nourished soils absorb and retain more water, becoming more drought resistant and less prone to flooding during the rainy season. Water resilience makes plantations less dependent on irrigation, thus saving water from rivers and wellsprings.

Biodiversity

Regenerative agriculture restores the volume of organic matter and ensures the proliferation of trillions of microorganisms that bring health and protection to plants and their roots. Strengthened, plantations become more resistant to pests, thus reducing or eliminating the use of pesticides and chemical fertilizers.

Animal welfare

Regenerative agriculture production prioritizes the natural behavior of animals. Among humane handling criteria are nutritious and adequate food, density (number of animals / square meter), resting area and shelter from the sun.

Social

By ensuring a more eff icient and productive cultivation of the land, regenerative agriculture energizes and strengthens rural communities and the local economy. Rizoma works relentlessly towards ensuring that small and large producers will have access to informatio and know ledgetoimplement regenerative systems

Profitability

Regenerative agriculture presents strong financial returns by reducing costs with less use of external inputs and utilizing ecosystem services readily available. It delivers high yields in productivity and revenue diversification by combining and rotating different crops and livestock.
